Some names are decorations. Ours is not. This is why we are called Cordelia, and why the name carries the weight it does.
Why we’re called Cordelia
The daughter who refused.
Named for the daughter who refused to perform.
Cordelia is the youngest daughter in Shakespeare’s King Lear. When her father asked his three daughters to publicly profess their love for him in exchange for inheritance, the older two delivered flowery speeches full of inflated praise. They got the kingdom.
Cordelia said only that she loved her father “according to my bond, no more nor less.” She refused to perform. She refused to flatter. She was banished.
She turned out to be the only daughter Lear could have trusted.
We named our marketplace for her because the destination wedding industry is full of inflated promises. Pay-to-play rankings. Ad-driven recommendations. Marketing copy written to make every vendor sound like the best one. The flattery is the product.
We don’t do any of it.
How we’re different
Trust as structure.
The trust isn’t a tagline. It’s the structure.
Physical vetting, not forms. Every vendor on Cordelia is visited by a local Market Manager who shows up in person, sits with three past clients, and pressure-tests the work before the Verified Passport badge is issued. Position on the page follows past client outcomes and verification status. Never ad spend.
Contracts that hold. Every booking runs on a written agreement in Spanish and English, signed by both sides, with the deliverables, the dates, and the terms if a date moves set down in language both parties actually read.
A local human, in the city. Every wedding has a Market Manager in Tulum, San Miguel de Allende, or Cabo San Lucas, reachable by name, who can walk into a vendor’s studio and speak on your behalf.
Vetted vendors. Contracts that hold. A local human.
The founders
Built by both sides.
Cordelia was not learned from interviews. It was lived first.
Maria
Co-founder
Engineer, MBA, and a Master’s in Tourism and Hospitality. As COO of a US hospitality company she ran vendor and client operations across the border, in both directions.
Pau
Co-founder
Engineer with a Master’s in Event Management from NYU. She has produced events at scale, and today runs part of a family business group with the discipline of a P&L. Her Mexican family-business contacts open the first vendor doors.
One of us built the operations. The other produced the events. We started Cordelia for two reasons. The vendors we know in Mexico do work that US couples never get to see, because nothing puts them in front of that audience. And the couples we know spend a year planning across a border, a language, and a time zone, with almost nothing built for them. Cordelia is the introduction, and the structure around it.
What the name actually means
Heart, by name.
In every language our couples speak.
Cordelia comes from the Latin cor, meaning heart. The first syllable lives in every language spoken by our couples. In Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese, it’s the word for heart itself. In English, it hides inside courage, cordial, and concord: words you have been using your whole life without noticing they trace back to the same root.

It’s not a coincidence we chose it. It’s why we chose it.
The bond that holds
About a bond.
Cordelia’s most famous line is about a bond.
I love your majesty according to my bond, no more nor less.
A bond is a promise. A bond is a contract. A bond is a vow.
Your wedding is the bond between two people. The contract behind every booking is the bond that holds a vendor to what they wrote down. The two meanings are one word. We named the company for both of them.
The bond that holds.
